The truth is safety pays.
We encourage all business owners to explore the true value of adding a safety program. When a company implements or improves on employee safety and health programs it saves money, time and resources.
It is true that workplace safety and employee training requires some upfront costs, but that cost is minimal compared to the costs your business will have to pay after a serious accident or injury occurs.
Ensuring safe and healthy workspaces means fewer incidents, health insurance claims and missed workdays.
Steer clear of this type of thinking. Both owners and employees are accountable for safety in the workplace. A business with a safety program creates and instills company values and sets the safety standards. It is true that accidents are likely to occur when we are in a hurry or just simply not paying attention. Creating an environment that is mindful of safety practices and instilling those practices into your company value system keeps safety in the forefront. Safety programs actually reduce the likelihood of an accident.
All workplaces have varying degrees of exposure to potential hazards, and unsafe situations. Even employees who work in offices are subject to accidents, injuries and illnesses unique to their type of work. Those in sedentary office type positions and those in healthcare have a unique set of potential risks and hazards.
Never assume your employees already know-it-all. Employees are entitled to and should be trained regularly about safety risks and issues at their worksites. It could endanger others and cost you financially, if you are not offering employees safety training.
